How we workVolunteer-powered, year-round

Mālama ʻāina, one Saturday at a time.

We are a community of neighbors, families, visitors, and longtime volunteers who share one purpose: helping Lydgate Park thrive.

Our work is practical and hands-on. We care for the shoreline, support Kamalani Playground, respond after severe weather, and create welcoming ways for people of all ages to give back.

The Friends operate in fiscal partnership with the YWCA of Kauaʻi, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. That partnership helps turn volunteer energy into lasting care for the park.

Seven days that showed what Kauaʻi can do.

Two years after Hurricane Iniki, more than 5,000 volunteers came together to build Kamalani Playground in just seven days. The project transformed a shared need into a place for imagination, play, and healing.

That same spirit still guides the Friends today. Caring for the park is not a one-time project—it is a promise renewed by every set of helping hands.

Weekly beach care

Every Saturday, volunteers gather near the lifeguard tower to clear debris and care for the beach around Morgan’s Pond.

Community workdays

Earth Day and Make a Difference Day bring larger crews together for focused park and playground projects.

Storm response

When extreme weather affects the park, the Friends help organize volunteer response and restoration efforts.

Leave the beach better than you found it.

Come for two hours, meet good people, and make a direct difference at Lydgate. Tools and work gloves are provided; bring sun protection and a reusable water bottle.
